RFID

Why should you use RFID technology?

RFID is not a completely new technology. Since 1979, it has been used to track animals, rail cars and military supplies. With the expansion of Internet of Things (IoT), where RFID plays major role, it is expanding as well and it is used for parking, access control, apparel tracking, uniform tracking, computer and other asset tracking, manufacturing, supply chain management and many other application.

Previously, the majority of these applications have been closed systems in which all the data was utilized by a single organization. The major difference in the RFID requirements today is that companies are seeking to share RFID data among trading partners in their supply chains. Sharing data requires that RFID systems today be built on open standards. One of the main organizations developing standards for RFID is EPCglobal or GS1, who works closely with many industry leaders to create standards that will be clear, secure, usable and easy to implement.

Ok, so RFID has been around for a while. But why should I use it?
RFID technology provides a real-time actionable and detailed information about your business processes as well as status and movement of your inventory, assets, and personnel that you wouldn’t be able to get otherwise. RFID enables you to gain insight about your current business processes and helps you see how to best modify them to increase efficiency. Data collected using RFID plays a big role in a company’s business process improvement and management, which essentially increases ROI, profit and customer satisfaction.

New technology and change in business processes are not the only things that will make a successful implementation. It is also device integration and software development as ERP and other backend systems are not prepared to deal with raw data from an RFID reader and tags. RUFUtech has an expertise in developing software applications that integrate RFID and Auto-ID technology as well as existing and new business processes to increase benefits from the technology use. That said, with good planning, you will reap the many benefits that RFID technology offers. Ask us how we can help you!
